Successful 4th CIGRE SEERC Grid Resilience Workshop in Rome

The 4th CIGRE SEERC Grid Resilience Workshop was successfully held on January 23, 2025, at the University of Roma "La Sapienza", bringing together experts from across the region to discuss key challenges and strategies for enhancing power grid resilience.
Under the theme “Enhancing Power Grid Resilience: Operational and Planning Experiences in Transmission & Distribution Grids and Generation Facilities,” the workshop featured insightful presentations and discussions on resilience strategies, extreme weather impacts, cyber threats, and regulatory frameworks.
Key sessions included:
✅ Opening Speech by Konstantin Papailiou, CIGRE President, on resilience challenges in high-voltage electrical systems, including case studies on war, cyber, and criminal attacks.
✅ Regional Case Studies from Slovenia, Georgia, Greece, Austria, Kosovo, Montenegro, Italy, Turkey, Romania and Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting national strategies for grid resilience.
✅ Women in Energy (WiE) Italy Panel, emphasizing diversity and leadership in energy resilience efforts.
✅ Technical Insights on extreme weather conditions, submarine cable resilience, and regulatory approaches to strengthening physical grid infrastructure.
The event concluded with a panel discussion on future resilience strategies, emphasizing the need for collaborative regional efforts in facing climate, cyber, and operational challenges in the power sector.
