On May 28, 2024, the seventh CIGRE SEERC Workshop was held in Cavtat, Croatia, on the topic "Navigating Spatial, Environmental and Siting Challenges in Electric Power Facility Development." This meeting underscored the commitment of SEERC CIGRE to addressing critical issues in the electric power sector in Southeast Europe and fostering cooperation among the countries in the region.

National Committees from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey shared their national experiences and strategies. Presentations focused on spatial issues in the placement of electric power facilities, legal regulations, and standards, including spatial and urban planning, integration of buildings into the existing urban complex, access roads, and connection to the power system.

The workshop addressed challenges related to electromagnetic fields near power facilities, particularly overhead lines, and reviewed corresponding legal solutions and regulations. Participants discussed obstacles in obtaining building permits, covering legal regulations related to feasibility studies, conceptual and preliminary designs, urban approvals, property and legal relations, land transformation, environmental impact studies, and energy approvals.

The workshop highlighted the importance of continued collaboration and innovation to overcome the spatial, environmental, and siting challenges in the development of electric power facilities. This SEERC Workshop reaffirmed SEERC CIGRE's dedication to enhancing the electric power sector through shared expertise and cooperative efforts.
